Nintendo has announced a remaster of Wii U title Xenoblade Chronicles X for Nintendo Switch.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will release for Switch on March 20, 2025, featuring enhanced visuals, added story elements and more, according to the platform holder.
“Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition features your character at the center of the action in a standalone sci-fi story,” reads a synopsis for the game.
“There is even more to discover in this definitive version of the game. Just who is the mysterious hooded figure on the beach? You’ll have to stay tuned to learn more…”
Originally released in 2015 and developed by Monolith Soft, Xenoblade Chronicles X is the second game in the Xenoblade Chronicles series.
It was succeeded by two Switch games, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in 2017 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 in 2022.
As the name implies, although Xenoblade Chronicles X features similar gameplay and themes to the original Xenoblade Chronicles, it’s not a direct sequel but is rather considered a spin-off of sorts.
It becomes the latest in a long line of Wii U games that have been ported to the Nintendo Switch for a second chance of sales success, often with new features added.
Previous Nintendo-published games that were originally released on Wii U before being ported to Switch have included Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, New Super Mario Bros U, Bayonetta 2, Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World and Tokyo Mirage Sessions.
